Private university Adamas setting up hospital in Barasat

 A private university on Saturday laid the foundation stone of a medical college that would be attached to a referral general hospital in Barasat.

The 1,000-bed hospital to be set up by Adamas University is expected to start operations by the end of 2021 and the medical college after another 40 months, Samit Ray, university chancellor and chairman of Rice Group, said.

The university is run by Sachis Kiron Roy Memorial Trust, which is associated with Roy’s Institutions of Competitive Examinations, better known as the Rice Group.

The four-year-old university offers undergraduate courses in science, arts, commerce, engineering and technology, management and law.

“The last feather in the university’s cap is a medical college. A university education system can’t be complete without a medical college and hospital,” Ray said.

বারাসতে ফুটবল অ্যাকাডেমি

 সিডনির বার্সেলোনা ক্লাবের বাঙালি ফিজিও রথীন সাহা নিজেই ফুটবল কোচিং স্কুল খুলেছেন বারাসতে।

সিডনির এই ক্লাব স্পেনের বার্সেলোনা ক্লাবের ফ্র্যাঞ্চাইজি। সেই ক্লাবে খুদেদের ফুটবল শিখিয়েই দিব্যি দিন কাটছিল তাঁর। কিন্তু দেশের টান থেকে মুখ ফিরিয়ে থাকা কি এত সহজ! তাই লম্বা ছুটি নিয়ে বছর চল্লিশের রথীন সাহা সিডনি থেকে সটান হাজির কলকাতায়। ছোটবেলার বন্ধুদের সাহায্যে একটি ফুটবল কোচিং স্কুলও বারাসতের হৃদয়পুর এলাকায় খুলে ফেলেছেন রথীন। এলাকার প্রায় জনা চল্লিশ শিশু এখন সেই ফুটবল কোচিং সেন্টারের ছাত্র। অ্যাকাডেমি চালানোর সব খরচ তাঁর পকেট থেকেই যায়।

বারাসতেই বড় হয়ে ওঠা রথীনের। কলেজের পাট চুকিয়ে তিনি রুটি-রুজির সন্ধান পাড়ি দিয়েছিলেন অষ্ট্রেলিয়ায়। সেখানে একটি ফুটবল ক্লাবে ফিজিও ট্রেনার হিসেবে চাকরিও জুটে যায়। এখনও রথীন বার্সেলোনা ক্লাবের সঙ্গে যুক্ত। তাঁর কথায়, 'বারাসতে আমার অনেক ফুটবলার বন্ধু এই কোচিং সেন্টারের সঙ্গে যুক্ত। আধুনিক পদ্ধতিতে বাচ্চাদের ফুটবল শেখানোর কৌশল আমি তাঁদের শেখাচ্ছি। অনলাইনে নিয়মিত যোগাযোগ তো থাকবেই। তা ছাড়াও প্রতি বছর একমাসের ছুটি নিয়ে আমি বারাসতে আসব ঠিক করেছি।'

বারাসতে স্বাস্থ্য শিবির

 হৃদয়পুরে 'ডাক্তারদাদা' শ্যামলের উদ্যোগে 'স্বাস্থ্য শিবির

পেশায় তিনি আয়কর আধিকারিক। তবে, এলাকায় তিনি পরিচিত 'ডাক্তার দাদা' হিসেবে। কারণ, পরিচিত, অপরিচিত মানুষের চিকিৎসা নিয়ে কোনও সমস্যার কথা কানে এলে তিনি হাত গুটিয়ে বসে থাকেন না। মুশকিল আসান করতে বারাসতের হৃদয়পুরের বাসিন্দা শ্যামল কুমার দাস ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়েন। শুধু বারাসত বা উত্তর ২৪ পরগণা জেলা নয়, অন্যান্য জেলা থেকেও অনেক মানুষ প্রতিদিন তাঁর কাছে ছুটে আসেন। কেউ জটিল রোগে আক্রান্ত হয়েছে কিন্তু কোন চিকিৎসকের কাছে যাবে বুঝতে পারছে না, তার ভরসা শ্যামলবাবুই। আত্মীয়, অনাত্মীয়, পরিচিত, স্বল্প-পরিচিত বা একেবারেই অপরিচিতের চিকিৎসার বন্দোবস্ত করতে কিংবা কারও নিকটজনকে হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করতে অফিসের কাজের ফাঁকে বা অফিস টাইমের আগে পরে ছুটে বেড়ানো শ্যামলের নেশার মতো হয়ে দাঁড়িয়েছে। এখানেই শেষ নয়। কারও কাছে চিকিৎসার জন্য প্রয়োজনীয় টাকা নেই, সে ব্যাপারে মাথা ঘামানোও তাঁর স্বভাব।

এহেন ব্যস্ত মানুষের উদ্যোগে রবিবার হৃদয়পুর কবরখোলা মাঠে হয়ে গেল তাঁরই হাতে তৈরী সংস্থা 'প্রয়াস'-এর তরফে পঞ্চম বর্ষ 'স্বাস্থ্য পরীক্ষা শিবির'। তবে, অন্যান্য 'স্বাস্থ্য পরীক্ষা শিবিরে'র থেকে 'প্রয়াস'-এর শিবির অনেকটাই আলাদা। কারণ, অত্যাধুনিক মেশিন এবং কলকাতার বিভিন্ন হাসপাতালের খ্যাতনামা চিকিৎসকরাই ছিলেন স্বাস্থ্য পরীক্ষার দায়িত্বে। গ্যাস্ট্রো এন্টারোলজিস্ট থেকে শুরু করে হেপাটোলজিস্ট, চর্মরোগ বিশেষজ্ঞ, অর্থপপেডিক, জয়েন্ট রিপ্লেসমেন্ট স্পেশালিস্ট, ব্যাক পেন স্পেশালিস্ট প্রায় সব বিভাগেরই নামকরা চিকিৎসকরা এ দিন হাজির ছিলেন ওই 'স্বাস্থ্য পরীক্ষা শিবিরে।'। শুধু প্রান্তিক মানুষই নয়, নিম্ন-মধ্যবিত্ত এবং মধ্যবিত্ত মানুষও এদিনের এই 'শিবির' থেকে বিনামূল্যে স্বাস্থ্য পরীক্ষা করিয়েছেন। সব মিলিয়ে প্রায় ১১০০ মানুষ এদিন স্বাস্থ্য পরীক্ষা করান। বিশিষ্ট হেপাটোলজিস্ট বিকাশ প্রকাশ বলেন,'অনেক মানুষ এসছেন যাঁদের রোগ হয়েছে অন্য অথচ, গ্যাসের ওষুধ খেয়ে

যাচ্ছেন। এটা সমাজের পক্ষে খুবই খারাপ ইঙ্গিত। সঠিক রোগ নির্ণয় করার পাশাপাশি এসব নিয়ে মানুষকে সচেতনও করা হয়েছে।' এদিকে, যাঁর উদ্যোগে এদিনের এই স্বাস্থ্য শিবির সেই শ্যামল কুমার দাস বলেন,' আমাদের দেশে চিকিৎসা পরিষেবার পরিকাঠামো প্রয়োজনের তুলনায় কম। তার উপর, এখনও বেশির ভাগ মানুষের মধ্যেই রোগ এবং চিকিৎসা সম্পর্কে যথেষ্ট অজ্ঞতা রয়েছে। যে কারণে সঠিক রোগের সঠিক চিকিৎসা হয়না। এই অজ্ঞতা দূর করতে এবং মানুষ যাতে সঠিক চিকিৎসা পায় সেজন্য সার্বিক ভাবে স্বাস্থ্য ও চিকিৎসা সম্পর্কে সচেতনতা আরও বাড়াতে হবে। সেদিকে তাকিয়েই এই ধরনের শিবিরের আয়োজন করা হয়েছে।'

Airport-Barasat metro line back to life

The jinxed Airport-Barasat Metro project has received the kiss of life with the Railway Board approving underground construction along a technically challenging 3.5km stretch and sanctioning an additional Rs 1,622 crore.

The original plan was to have elevated tracks from the airport till New Barrackpore but “technical reasons” forced an alteration.

Metro Railway sought additional funds to cover cost escalation from the Railway Board more than a year ago. A series of communications since then culminated in the board approving the additional requirement on December 4, a senior railway ministry official said on Thursday.

Once completed till New Barrackpore, the Metro link will provide faster access to Calcutta from the northern suburbs. Commuters from those parts currently have to negotiate traffic congestion at multiple points to reach the heart of the city.

Sources said it would take about four years for the project to be completed.

The Airport-Barasat link is the only Metro project in the city for which even preliminary work hadn’t started until now. The airport authorities had raised objections to an elevated viaduct because of its proximity to the landing zone for aircraft. Encroachments along the proposed alignment through New Barrackpore and the presence of several private buildings near the Barasat site were the other impediments.

Larsen & Toubro had won a Rs 280-crore contract in October 2011 to build a 5km stretch of the proposed Metro line between Madhyamgram and Barasat. Work never started because the stretch was lined with 1,900 unauthorised structures, including 800-odd shops.

Earlier this year, the railway authorities wrote to the state government stating that the squatters should be removed. “Once work starts and tracks are built till New Barrackpore, it will be easier to stretch it till Barasat. Then the state government can be convinced to remove the encroachments,” an official in the railway ministry said.

In the December 4 letter to Metro Railway, the Railway Board informed that the total cost of the project had been raised from Rs 3,207 crore to Rs 4829.57 crore.

Underground construction entails cost escalation by two-and-a-half times. For each kilometre of underground tracks, the estimated cost is Rs 500-600 crore.

Metro had previously reported on how cost escalation was the main constraint for tracks going underground for 3.6km. In the original plan, two stations were to be built along the stretch from Birati to New Barrackpore. In the reworked plan, a station has been proposed at Michael Nagar.

“Metro Railway has convinced the board that this project will be beneficial to tens of thousands of people,” an official said.

A railway official said in the proposal sent to the board, it was mentioned that construction of tunnels would done through the old cut-and-cover method. Tunnel-boring machines like those used in the East-West Metro project won’t be brought here because that would increase the cost further, the official explained.

উত্তর চব্বিশ পরগনায় বারাসাতের নারায়ণ মিউনিসিপাল হাসপাতাল রাজ্যে প্রথম নজির সৃষ্টি করল ইনভাসিব হার্ট ডিজিজ এর রোগীকে সম্পূর্ণ সুস্থ করে। এই সফল চিকিৎসার জন্য তৈরী হয়েছিল সেরা চিকিৎসকদের নিয়ে একটি মেডিকেল বোর্ড। এই চিকিৎসক দলে ছিলেন নারায়ণ হাসপাতালের মুখ্য হৃদরোগ বিশেষজ্ঞ ডা. অংশুমান ধোল, ডা. কৌশিক পাল সহ বহু বিশিষ্ট চিকিৎসকমন্ডলী।

কয়েকদিন আগে মিত্তল ভাল্ব রিপ্লেসমেন্ট করার আশায় আসেন হাওড়ার বাসিন্দা পঙ্কজ হাজরা ( ৪২) নামে এক রোগী। নারায়ণ মিউনিসিপাল হাসপাতালের নিয়ম অনুযায়ী বারাসাত ও তৎসংলগ্ন অঞ্চলে ৩৬৫ দিনই এই সুবিধা দেওয়া হয়। ঘটনাচক্রে পঙ্কজবাবু সেখানে আসায় চিকিৎসকগণ তাঁর চিকিৎসাসেবার দায় নেন। দূরত্ব ও অল্প সময়ের ব্যবধানে উন্নত পরিষেবা দিতে তাঁরা বদ্ধপরিকর। খুব স্বাভাবিক ভাবেই সঠিক সময়ে সঠিক নির্ণয় ও উন্নত চিকিৎসা পরিষেবা দিয়ে সম্পূর্ণ সুস্থ করে তুললেন পঙ্কজবাবুকে। চিকিৎসার নয়া নজির সৃষ্টি করলেন উত্তর চব্বিশ পরগণা জেলার গর্ব বারাসাতের এই হাসপাতাল।

 দীর্ঘ দিনের প্রতীক্ষার অবসান। বারাসাত জেলা হাসপাতালের নবনির্মিত সুসজ্জিত প্রবেশ দ্বারের আনুষ্ঠানিক উদ্বোধন। উদ্বোধন করলেন বারাসাত সংসদীয় লোকসভা কেন্দ্রের সাংসদ ডাঃ কাকলী ঘোষ দস্তিদার। 

গত কয়েকমাস আগে রাজ্য সরকারের অর্থানুকূল্যে এবং বারাসাত পৌরসভার তত্ত্বাবধানে শুরু হয় এই প্রবেশদ্বার তৈরীর কাজ। গত কয়েকদিন আগেই শেষ হয় এই সুসজ্জিত প্রবেশদ্বার তৈরীর কাজ। মঙ্গলবার দুপুর ঠিক ১টায় শুরু হয় উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠান। উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে সাংসদ ডাঃ কাকলী ঘোষ দস্তিদার ছাড়াও উপস্থিত ছিলেন বারাসাত পৌরসভার পৌরপ্রধান সুনীল মুখার্জী, পৌর পারিষদ সদস্য (স্বাস্থ্য) চম্পক দাস, জেলার মুখ্য স্বাস্থ্য আধিকারিক ডাঃ রাঘবেশ মজুমদার সহ হাসপাতালের চিকিৎসক ও কর্মী বৃন্দ।প্রবেশদ্বারটির উদ্বোধন করে মাননীয়া সাংসদ বলেন, আগামী কয়েকদিনের মধ্যে হাসপাতালের দ্বিতীয় প্রবেশদ্বারটির কাজ শুরু হবে এবং মেডিকেল কলেজের প্রশাসনিক ভবনের কাজও শুরু হবে। 

বারাসাত হাসপাতালের মুকুটে রাজ্যের সেরা হাসপাতালের শিরোপা শোভা পাওয়ার জন্য হাসপাতাল অধীক্ষক সহ হাসপাতালের সমস্ত স্তরের কর্মীদের ধন্যবাদ জ্ঞাপন করেন তিনি।অনুষ্ঠানে পৌরহিত্য করেন হাসপাতালের মাননীয় অধীক্ষক ডাঃ সুব্রত মন্ডল।

Barasat gets first trauma care ambulance, two bio-toilets

 Barasat Municipality in North 24-Parganas has got its first trauma care ambulance that will cater to a large number of people in the district. Barasat MP Kaloli Ghosh Dastidar on Monday inaugurated a trauma care ambulance along with two bio-toilets that will be extremely handy for the civic body to provide better services to the people. The trauma care ambulance which is equipped with all the modern facilities will be stationed at the municipality office. It will not only cater to the people under the jurisdiction of the municipality but also to others living in the adjoining areas. The projects have jointly been funded by the MP and the Barasat Municipality.

Champak Das, the Chairman-in-council (Health) of Barasat Municipality said the services would be provided at a subsidised rate so that the people can afford the ambulance service at a low cost. There will be a doctor and two technicians in the ambulance. The newly inaugurated ambulance is fitted with an operation theater and a life support system. The doctor can perform a surgery within the ambulance if it is required while transporting an accident victim to the hospital. "The fare of the trauma care ambulance will be fixed after the chairmen-in-council meeting. People can avail it at a much cheaper rate. The ambulance will provide 24-hours emergency services to the people of Barasat and also from the adjoining areas," Das said.

It may be mentioned here that accidents often take place on National Highway 34 and Jessore Road, both of which pass through the district head quarter at Barasat. In some cases, accident victims are critical and they require a trauma care ambulance for an immediate transportation. The trauma care ambulances of the private hospitals are not always available and they charge people a huge amount of money. Two bio-toilets have been procured by the municipality which would be used during any event. The toilets would also be used for commercial purposes, an official of the civic body said.

অবাক বিশ্ব! সাত বছরেই ব্ল্যাক বেল্ট হৃদয়পুরের ফ্লোরা

 একেবারে কার্বন কপি! বিশ্বকাঁপানো ক্যারাটে গ্র্যান্ডমাস্টার একের পর পর ‘কাতা’ প্রদর্শন করছেন। আর অবলীলায় তা কপি করছে এক শিশুকন্যা। বয়স কত আর হবে? মেরেকেটে সাত বছর। গুছিয়ে কথাও বলতে পারে না। কিন্তু ক্যারাটের সাদা পোশাকে জ্বলজ্বল করছে কালো বন্ধনী।

হ্যাঁ, গোটা বিশ্বকে অবাক করে মাত্র সাত বছরেই ব্ল্যাক বেল্ট হৃদয়পুরের ফ্লোরা দাস। আজ, শনিবার কলকাতার আইসিসিআর হলে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে ফ্লোরার সঙ্গে জুড়বে ব্ল্যাক বেল্ট বন্ধনী। ব্ল্যাক বেল্ট পাবে ফ্লোরার দিদিও। ১৪ বছরের আদৃতা। পাবে তেরো বছরের রূপাঞ্জনা পাল। সবার নজর অবশ্য ফ্লোরার দিকে। কারণ এত কম বয়সে কেউ এই বিরল কৃতিত্বের অধিকারী হয়নি। এমনটাই জানালেন ফ্লোরার প্রশিক্ষক সুভাষ মিত্র। বললেন, “৩৮ বছর ধরে ক্যারাটে শেখাচ্ছি। কিন্তু এত কম বয়সে কেউ এমন পারদর্শিতা দেখাতে পারেনি।” ফ্লোরার সৌরভ অবশ্য মে মাসে থেকেই ছড়াতে শুরু করেছে। নেপালে আয়োজিত আন্তর্জাতিক ক্যারাটে প্রতিযোগিতায় সাতটি দেশের প্রতিযোগীদের টপকে ব্যক্তিগত বিভাগে সোনা পেয়েছে ফ্লোরা। ফ্লোরার লড়াই বা ‘কুমিতে’ মুগ্ধ করেছে পাকিস্তান, নেপাল, শ্রীলঙ্কা, ভুটান, বাংলাদেশের গ্র্যান্ডমাস্টারদেরও। শুক্রবারও ফ্লোরায় মুগ্ধ হলেন দক্ষিণ আফ্রিকা থেকে আসা বিশ্বখ্যাত গ্র্যান্ডমাস্টার সনি পিল্লে। বললেন, “এই মেয়ে অনেকদূর যাবে। বাংলা তথা ভারতের ক্যারাটে মানচিত্রে বিপ্লব এনে দেবে।”

ফ্লোরার মা পল্লী দাস অবশ্য অতকিছু ভাবছেন না। তিনি খুশি অন্য কারণে। জানালেন, নারী নিগ্রহের ব্যাপারে বারাসত একাধিকবার খবরের শিরোনামে এসেছে। রাজীব দাস-কাণ্ড, কামদুনি-কাণ্ড। মেয়েরা ক্যারাটে শেখায় অনেকটাই নিশ্চিন্ত বোধ করছি।” ফ্লোরার বাবা পুলক দাসের ট্যুরিজমের ব্যবসা। বাইরে বাইরে থাকতে হয়। কিন্তু একদিনের জন্যও মেয়েদের নিয়ে দুশ্চিন্তা হয়নি পল্লীর। জানালেন, “জ্যাকি শ্রফ, অজয় দেবগন, অক্ষয় কুমারের অ্যাকশন খুব ভাল লাগত। তাই মেয়েদের চাঁপাডালি যুবক সংঘ ক্লাবের ক্যারাটে ক্লাসে ভর্তি করি। ফ্লোরার বয়স তখন আড়াই বছর। বড় মেয়ে আদৃতার এগারো। মাত্র পাঁচ বছরেই সাফল্যের শিখরে পৌঁছে গিয়েছে দুই মেয়ে।” ফ্লোরাকে নিয়ে অবশ্য মাঝেমধ্যে সমস্যা হচ্ছে! সারাক্ষণই শ্যাডো করছে। যখন তখন হাত-পা চলছে। দিদি, বাবা-মা কেউ বাদ নেই। বাধ্য হয়েই বিছানার উপর দু’টি বালিশ ঝুলিয়ে দিয়েছেন পল্লীদেবী। ওগুলোর সঙ্গে চলছে লড়াই।

আজ, শনিবার প্রায় একজন গ্র‌্যান্ডমাস্টার ও তিনজন প্রশিক্ষকের উপস্থিতিতে ফ্লোরাকে ব্ল্যাক বেল্ট দেওয়া হবে। আরও অনেকেই পাবেন এই বিশেষ শংসাপত্র। কিন্তু সবার নজর থাকবে ফ্লোরার দিকে। জানালেন ‘সাঁতরাগাছি আর্ট অফ লাইফ’-এর সম্পাদক মৌসুমী মজুমদার। ‘অল ইন্ডিয়া শোটোকান ক্যারাটে ডু স্কুল’-র সঙ্গে জোট বেঁধে আইসিসিআরে তিনদিনের ক্যারাটে ট্রেনিংয়ের আয়োজন করেছেন মৌসুমীরা। জানালেন, “মেয়েদের সেলফ ডিফেন্স শেখাতে ফ্লোরা রোল মডেল হয়ে উঠছে।”

ISL 2018: ATK launch academy in Barasat in association with Aditya School of Sports

 What's the story?

ATK have made their move in establishing and developing a solid grassroots structure. The two-time ISL champions have launched the ATK Academy in association with Aditya Sports School in Barasat on Wednesday, August 15.

In case you didn't know...

ATK (formerly Atletico de Kolkata) was one of the eight founding members of the Indian Super League. The Kolkata-based side entered the first edition of the competition in association with Atletico Madrid, hence taking the name Atletico de Kolkata.

Led by Liverpool legend Luis Garcia, ATK won the first-ever Indian Super League by beating Kerala Blasters in the final. Mohammed Rafique was the goalscorer as ATK edged the inaugural ISL final by a goal to nil.

ATK would go on to win one more ISL title, two years later, in the third season of the league. The Kolkata club became the first side to win two titles.

The heart of the matter

The two-time champions took a step further in instilling the winner mentality in young players. The Kolkata club opened their new academy in Barasat, in association with Aditya School of Sports. The ATK Academy is set to follow the widely renowned structure, involving residential education plus sports.

Sanjoy Sen, ATK's assistant coach, who is also in charge of the club's youth setup, spoke about the academy at the venue:

The head coaches have also been announced for the age categories -- Mr. Ghosh for the U13 category, and Mr. Altaf for the U15 category.

What's next?

Developing grassroots football has become paramount in India. The clubs participating in the I-League and the ISL not only want to win the league and attract big name signings; but they also want to create players from scratch. Time will tell how successful the ATK Academy turns out to be.
