To keep vegetables, fruits and foodgrains fresh and export-worthy, the West Bengal Government is building a packaging house of international standards in Barasat.
This infrastructural facility would be specially useful to big farmers who export their products.
The initiative will also be beneficial for the small farmers as well. Products exported to other countries need to maintain standards strictly.
This information was conveyed by the State Food Processing and Horticulture Minister at a recent programme in Kolkata organised by a chamber of commerce.
He further said at a cost of Rs 5 to 7 crore, another such packaging house is being planned to be constructed for small farmers, those who want to take the help of the latest technology to keep their products fresh.
